Carmelo Rivera, affectionately known as “Mel,” hails from the vibrant city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, where his journey into entrepreneurship began at a remarkably young age. Supported by his father, Don Carmelo Rivera, who served as his initial investor, Mel received the backing to print his first set of business cards at the tender age of 16. Since that auspicious start, he has been on a dynamic entrepreneurial odyssey, not only cultivating his ventures but also gaining valuable insights through roles in management and executive positions within local and national companies.
Over the past two decades, Mel has had the privilege of benefiting from mentorship under several notable executives, with one of the most influential being the renowned businessman in Puerto Rico, specializing in sales and distribution of toys and home accessories, Don Mario Mercado Vega. Mel’s tenure with Don Mario encompassed diverse roles, from accounting and warehouse management to sales management. His journey culminated in assuming the pivotal role of General Manager, where he skillfully negotiated contracts with manufacturers and facilitated sales across Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
Mel’s professional trajectory is a testament to his versatility and dedication. Following a rewarding period with Don Mario, Mel embarked on personal projects that showcased his entrepreneurial prowess. This break, however, was short-lived, as Don Mario beckoned Mel back for a marketing project. Their professional relationship reached new heights when Don Mario extended a partnership offer, recognizing Mel’s exceptional skills and contributions.
In addition to his hands-on experience, Mel possesses a solid educational foundation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, coupled with a master’s degree (MBA) in marketing from SUAGM (UMET). This unique blend of practical experience and academic acumen positions Mel as a well-rounded business leader.
